Marijuana and Oxycontin

Although many states have chosen to allow marijuana to be used for medical purposes, and some have even legalized recreational use, the facts about this drug remain the same. Marijuana alters your brain chemistry when used and can lead to dependence for some people.

Many groups state that physical addiction to marijuana is impossible. They quote studies and doctor statements to this effect. This is still debatable and may or may not be true. But marijuana does pose a threat to emotional addiction, especially for those trying to escape from emotional-based pain.

Sadly, when marijuana no longer provides the high necessary to dull this type of pain, the person using marijuana often starts using more of the product or starts combining pot use with other drugs, particularly prescription drugs. Over the last few years, the drug of choice has been Oxycontin or Oxycodone.

This is a very dangerous mixture. Although both drugs are considered “legal” when they are combined, they create a potential for a lethal outcome.

Marijuana is a natural depressant. It slows brain activity, nerve activity, and can even slow down your heart rate and respiration. Oxycontin and Oxycodone are both pain relievers that interact with brain chemistry and cause a significant slow down in function in all of your body systems. Oxy products are also highly addictive, so your body continually craves more drugs to keep the sustained high.

Abusing marijuana and oxy together can lead to organ failure, including heart attack and strokes. It can cause labored breathing or shut down your lungs. The lethargy caused by combining these two drugs can also make it difficult to call out for help if you are in distress. If you are using one or both of these drugs, especially if they are being used together, you are placing our life at risk.

Drug Use Is Often More Than Just A Physical Addiction

Using drugs is often a way for people to mask emotional or mental issues that they may not know how to manage on their own. The use of these drugs, especially depressants, helps “calm their nerves” and makes them numb to the emotional and mental pain they are experiencing. Sadly, this type of treatment for these issues often leads to more devastating problems associated with addiction.

Part of our drug rehabilitation program is to address the underlying causes of your drug use or addiction. It is about helping our clients find and address the underlying causes of their addiction so that they can break the cycle and emerge from our program in recovery.

Our addiction recovery center offers more than physical detoxing from drugs or alcohol. It is a comprehensive program that is individualized for each client and managed by a personal substance abuse counselor so that our clients can achieve success. It is designed to help you overcome physical addiction and address the issues that led to this lifestyle.

This is a different type of drug rehab than what is offered at many other establishments. We believe that our clients must feel comfortable and safe in their surroundings and must be rewarded for their achievements.

Our rehabilitation program is set on a beautiful piece of property that has a lot of natural green space, including a small lake. We have horses, and we have an open space for enjoyment. We serve home-cooked meals and are proud to say that it is fabulous home-style food. We also reward our clients with field trips to local establishments as they progress through the program to help them reintegrate into a social life without the use of drugs or alcohol.

No one sets out to become addicted to a drug. This is especially true when you read all of the misinformation about the safe use of marijuana. Marijuana may be safer than many other drugs, but it still can lead to addiction, and it still can lead to using additional drugs or alcohol when the high no longer disguises the pain.

You can live a substance-free life. It is possible when you are given the skills and support to make that happen. We encourage you to look at our different programs to help you enter into recovery and take control of your life. There is no better time than now to start working towards a substance-free lifestyle.

If you believe that you or your loved one is struggling with addiction, the time to act is now. Every day that you do not address the addiction can put you or your loved one’s life at risk. There are local drug rehabs that can help. We encourage you to see what our amazing facility can offer so that you can begin your journey to recovery.
